About the DBT-BIF Centre
Bioinformatics Infrastructure Facility (BIF) Centre was established at the Department of Computer Science, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi in September 2006 under the Biotechnology Information System Network (BTISNET) scheme funded by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India. Since its inception, the Centre as an additional offshoot of the department has made significant progress and provides supports for both M.Sc. Bioinformatics and PhD students working in the area of Bioinformatics. The objectives of the establishment of DBT-BIF centre are to support M. Sc. (Bioinformatics) programme for developing human resource in bioinformatics, and to support bioinformatics research for understanding the deeper biological structures through computational modeling and analysis. The Department of Computer Science offers a two-years M.Sc. (Bioinformatics) programme, in addition to MCA and PGDCA programme through a well-designed industry- and research-oriented curriculum. Theme of the Workshop Bioinformatics and Computational Biology is a scientific discipline that deals with the use of computational techniques for analyzing biological data. It acts as a bridge between the computer science and molecular biology with the goal of storing, organizing, modeling, and analyzing large sets of biological data derived from various biological experiments. One such type of large-scale experiment involves monitoring the expression levels of thousands of genes simultaneously under a particular condition, called gene expression. Microarray technology is one of the indispensable tools that biologists use to monitor genome-wide expression levels of genes in a given organism. As microarrays technologies have become more prevalent, the challenges associated with collecting, managing, and analyzing the data from each experiment have essentially increased. Robust laboratory protocols, improved understanding of the complex experimental design and falling prices of commercial platforms, all these have combined to drive the field to more complex experiments, generating huge amounts of data. This workshop will provide an understanding of bioinformatics to allow rapid interpretation of the expanding quantity of biological information. The workshop lectures and hands-on sessions will include, but not limited to: • Analysis of high-throughput biological data • Systems biology • Biological data mining • Structural bioinformatics • Genome analysis • Sequence analysis • Phylogenetics • Analysis of high-throughput biological data • Computational Proteomics Aim of the Workshop In continuation with previous DBT-BIF workshops organized by the centre, this two-days workshop focuses on current topics in Computational Biology and Bioinformatics. Eminent resource persons from NII, JNU, AIIMS, IITD, SAU, IIGEB, and JMI, actively working in the area of computational biology and bioinformatics, are expected to deliver lectures followed by demonstration and hands-on practice sessions. The participants will have an opportunity to interact with eminent persons in bioinformatics field and get insight about the biological problems and related ongoing researches. Participants will become familiarized with commonly used bioinformatics tools that will facilitate their own bioinformatics/genomics research. Who can Apply? PG students, Research scholars, Scientists, Faculty members working in the area of Bioinformatics may apply to attend the workshop Registration Fee: 1000/- (One Thousand only) The registration fee includes workshop kit and requisite hospitality, including lunch and refreshments. Participation certificate will be issued to all the participants, who attend all sessions of the workshop. Selected candidates should submit a demand draft for registration fee in favor of "The Registrar, Jamia Millia Islamia" payable at New Delhi at the time of registration. Under the aegis of |
